Dr V G S Sai Swarup and nine others moved high court challenging the inaction of the state government in paying them salaries. Arguing on behalf of the petitioners, Thandava Yogesh told the high court that the doctors have risked their lives during the pandemic and treated several patients. The state government is not paying them salaries for eight months. Representations were given on multiple occasions but no action was taken by the government.
Arguing on behalf of the government, V Ramesh said the chief administrator of National Health Mission has made requisition to the finance department on four occasions between May and November 2022 requesting to release salaries to doctors but in vain. The finance department is yet to consider the request and release salary.
Considering the arguments on both sides, Justice Gannamaneni Ramakrishna Prasad expressed displeasure over the finance department. He directed the government pleader to get instructions from the principal secretary of finance department as to why his salary should not be attached and posted the matter for further hearing on December 7.
