The Andhra Pradesh high court on Wednesday summoned Revu Mutyalaraju, secretary in the chief minister’s office, and the then West Godavari district collector, to appear before the high court in a contempt case.

The high court directed Mutyalaraju to appear in person to explain why the court orders were not implemented.

One Shaik Silar, a resident of Samisra Gudem village under Nidadavolu mandal in West Godavari district moved high court challenging the inaction of the officials in removing encroachments in Zilla Parishat High School premises. He said that private persons turned the school building into a function hall and let out on lease.

The high court allowed the petition with direction to the officials concerned to conduct a survey to demarcate the school premises and to remove encroachments and to construct compound wall within two weeks. The orders were passed in 2020.

Taking a serious note of non-compliance of court orders, the high court issued notices to the respondents to explain why the petition should not be admitted. The respondents filed counter affidavits but the high court expressed dissatisfaction over contents and held that prima facie they have committed contempt. It posted the matter for further hearing after four weeks.
