LUCKNOW: The state government will be holding a key meeting this week to decide on adopting UP Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy, 2022.

The urban development department will brief the heads of the 17 municipal corporations on the key points of the policy and ask them to implement it across 17 cities of the state.

Though UP has the highest vehicle number of electric vehicles in the country, it lacks charging stations in the same proportion. Presently UP has about 4.10 lakh electric vehicles. Principal secretary of the urban development department, Amrit Abhijat said municipal commissioners have been asked to take steps to augment the charging infrastructure.

The government is coordinating with NITI Aayog and Asian Development Bank (ADB) to finalise a comprehensive electric mobility plan for Lucknow and it is expected to go green before other cities in the state.

According to the roadmap prepared by the department by 2025, some routes across the 17 cities will have to be turned into green routes where only electric public transport vehicles will be deployed. And by 2030 the entire fleet of vehicles engaged for public transportation will have to be battery operated.
