The protesters against Vizhinjam International Seaport have assured the high court that heavy vehicles to the project site will not be blocked.

In a hearing conducted on Tuesday, Justice Anu Sivaraman recorded the submission made by the counsel representing the protesters. The court is considering a petition by Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd (AVPL) on September 14 alleging non-implementation of the police protection order of September 1. On September 30, the court had directed the state government to ensure that there is no obstruction to the ingress and egress to and from the project site.

During Tuesday’s hearing, AVPL contended that the state government could not implement the court’s order even after two months. Not implementing the court’s order will send a wrong signal to society and an advocate commission should be appointed to ascertain the true facts, AVPL demanded.

A counsel representing the protesters submitted that no vehicles have come to the project area. The court said the protesters should not use the government’s stance as a trump card. The government had earlier informed the court that it is not resorting to hard measures as women and children are present among the protesters. The court will hear the case again on November 28.
