Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate moved the Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi on Friday seeking permission to take Trinamool leader Anubrata Mandal, now in Asansol Correctional Home, in transit remand and produce Mandal at the Delhi court, reports Rohit Khanna. The court fixed the hearing of the ED plea on November 22.
The ED took the legal route because the accused had refused to sign the arrest memo following the questioning at Asansol jail on Thursday. ED counsel Nitish Rana submitted to the court on Friday that the accused was an “influential politician” who collected “illegal gratification” from Enamul Haqueand Sheikh Abdul Latif. Anubrata’s lawyers are all set to challenge ED taking Mandal in custody. “We will challenge the legality of the arrest. The case will come up for hearing on Tuesday,” said Anirban Guha Thakurta, Mandal’s lawyer.
