Hc Grants Bail To Lawyer Rajiv Kumar, Legal News, ET LegalWorld – Legal Firms

Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court (HC) on Wednesday granted bail to advocate Rajiv Kumar, a lawyer who was arrested by the Kolkata police with Rs 50 lakh cash.

A police case was registered in the Hare Street police station against Kumar by businessman Amit Agarwal. He alleged that Kumar demanded money in lieu of softening his stand in a public interest litigation filed before the Jharkhand high court against Agarwal. Kumar was taken into custody by the Kolkata police and is facing a case there.

Soon after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) also booked charges against Kumar found to be in possession of Rs 50 lakh which could not be accounted for. The ED filed a complaint against him and submitted its charge sheet before the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act court in Ranchi.

Kumar has been in custody since July 31 and while being under detention has also been implicated in other cases of alleged land grabbing pending before different courts in the city. At present, he is lodged in the Birsa Munda Central Jail and is not wanted in any other case, said Kumar’s counsel Nilesh Kumar. Kumar will be released from jail soon, his advocate said.

Advocate Nilesh Kumar while arguing the case at length told the court that his client is a victim of larger conspiracy and his arrest was pre-planned. The ED has already completed its investigation in the matter and submitted its charge sheet. Even if Kumar is released on bail, there is no chance of him tampering with the evidence in any manner, Nilesh argued.
