Lucknow: The Prayagraj unit of the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday night grilled Mukhtar Ansari’s MLA son Abbas Ansari and brother-in-law Atif Raza in a money laundering case.

ED has found that Raza was the director of a firm, Vikas Constructions, run by Mukhtar’s wife Afshan Ansari and son Abbas Ansari.

The firm had allegedly usurped government land in Mau’s Raini village and illegally constructed a godown on it. Another illegal construction was also allegedly done by the firm in Ghazipur against which an FIR was lodged in 2021.

ED sources said that both Abbas and Raza did not own up any financial record shown to them and denied all charges against them.

According to ED officials, loans were taken by the company but all its account books and balance sheets were fudged. The company did not pay the loans taken from banks and the amount was also not mentioned in account books.

ED officials said the statements of the duo would be verified through the evidence collected by the team.

Sources said that Vikas Constructions had received Rs 15 crore from the Food Corporation of India as rent for the godown. “The amount received as rent is nothing but proceeds of crime as the godown was constructed on land usurped by Vikas Constructions,” an official said. Abbas holds 60% partnership in Vikas Constructions.

“ED officials scanned the bank accounts of Abbas Ansari and found that financial transactions were made between him and his partners Atif Raza and Afshan Ansari, besides Vikas Construction,” the official added.
