Addressing a press conference, Tribal leaders and former ministers Vikram Usendi, Kedar Kashyap, Lata Usendi and BJP’s Chhattisgarh ST Cell president Vikas Markam on Sunday said the chief minister’s voluntary inefficiency to protect tribals interest had paved the way for a dwindling of ST reservation from 32% to 20%. Khande was one of the petitioners who had sought in the court a cut in reservation for STs and thus he has been rewarded for his anti-ST stand, the BJP leaders alleged.
The Congress government has made political appointments to the boards, commissions, corporations etc. ahead of the assembly election and Khande has been made the chairman of the SC Commission as part of these appointments. As many as 152 Congress leaders were appointed to various posts lying vacant in the boards, corporations and commissions following the recommendation of chief minister Bhupesh Baghel. General administration department of Chhattisgarh government had on Saturday issued an order to this effect.
Tribal communities see the appointment of Khande, who represent the SC communities, to this coveted post as insult to injuries the STs are suffering today. The appointment has exposed the state government, they said.
